Oh today, today, what a day it is. With the brand new release of our bass player Mike's video game "Sulfur Sultans" and Brent's new book "RMO: The Life and Times of a True Artist", we've got a lot on our hands.

Not to mention it's our drummer's (MY) birthday RIGHT NOW! HOLY CHEEZUS CRUST!

.......But we have some news that saddens us........

We'll only be playing 4 shows on this upcoming tour. We had to cancel the rest of our route due to some scheduling conflicts/booking issues. BUT FEAR NOT! We'll be coming your way this spring multiple times if things work out the way we want them to.

We got a real Gremlin ROAST for ya'll this week.

We begin to announce the shows for our 4th and final tour of 2011! We start hitting the road again in February of 2012, starting off with a tour with our buddiesSkimask from Boston, MA - some of the raddest/craziest dudes around. Then a tour with the one and only JEFF The Brotherhood! And as if that wasn't enough, we'll be wheeling around the nation with Mean Jeans in late spring/early summer!

Our next show in Nashville is going to be THIS SUNDAY, November 13th with MELT BANANA (holyshitholyshitholyshit) and LOOK WHAT I DID!!!

Our pals and Nashville comrades JEFF the Brotherhood are some of our favorite people and one of our favorite bands. These guys have been hitting it hard since way way way way way before we were even getting boners about ghosts, so it makes me more than happy to let these deets fly!

We've got a few shows coming up with JEFF and they aren't all in Nashville for once!

1. Secret, free, basement show with JEFF and Diarrhea Planet only. The date just got moved but it should be at The Other Basement in the next month. I'll post it when I know it.

2. Carbondale, Illinois and St. Louis, Missouri with JEFF and Diarrhea Planet the weekend of February 26th. Not sure of the exact venues but I know that if you're in those cities and want to see either band, you're probably in the know.

3. March 4th, Nashville's Dead presents The Freakin' Weekend show at Exit/IN with Jacuzzi Boys, JEFF the Brotherhood, Cy Barkley & The Way Outsiders, and Diarrhea Planet. That shit will be completely insane.

That's what we've got coming up with JEFF but we've also got a show on February 18th at Springwater with our good friends from New York, Space Ghost Cowboys (grab their record for free and their accompanying first record under the name Sex God from http://shackattackrecords.bandcamp.com/ .....these albums changed my life), as well as a reunited The Only Good Thing About The Forties and a couple others TBA.

As I keep typing the news just keeps rolling in! We're also about to do a split cassette with about 4 or 5 songs per side with one of our new favorite bands, The Devin Robinson Band (seriously the best dudes!).

Also, we've been digging into as many bands coming through this fine town of Nashville as we can lately and we've been grabbing tons of video in the process! 1. Our first EP "ALOHA!" is going to see a vinyl release, via a 7" release on Evil Weevil Records.

2. Our newest EP "Loose Jewels" is going to see a tape release sometime this fall via a special surprise label.

3. We will have a split with Nashville's very own PUJOL, sometime in the near future.

The name of our dude and consequentially, the band as well, is Evan P. Donohue! Oh what a heartbreaker!

The album is called Rhythm & Amplitude, and it's coming out SO SOON!

We all went to Panera a week ago and it made me think about why I haven't done that before.

Went to a show at The Rabbit Hole tonight on 7th street in Nashville. Thought it would be a strange show because even for a house show the setup was pretty bizarre with the band playing in a dining room and us standing in the kitchen to the left of it and also watching through a door frame in front of the band.

Basically, some of the coolest, most incredibly genuine bands I've met in a while and really one of the best shows I've been to in a while as well. Really eclectic but in the most perfect sense.

Corn Cat - TV Dreams

Oh, how great Weezer is. Having recently, and in the past, mulled over how great that particular band and there entire being is, I can definitely say that a lot of that mulling was done with Jantiss Rigponch, otherwise known as Max Frecka or Corn Cat.

Today we've got an entire free album download courtesy of Corn Cat himself, entitled TV DREAMS.

This album is a serious grab bag of all things really fantastic. Maybe it just hit me at the right time, but it's very good. In a nutshell there are so many different bleeps, bloops, and samples going on at all times that it's really hard to focus on just one thing and very easy to get lost in the music and zone out.

TV DREAMS has everything from odd, dollar-vinyl-bin samples to carefully crafted electronica to nonsensical hiphop poetry slam to spazzy breakbeat freakouts. It really just has it all. Under any normal circumstance I probably would have a lot of trouble sitting down and really digging into a record like this but for whatever reason, (possibly being serious bouts of melody and melodic sensibility throughout the entire record), it just makes sense.

Of course, as with any other record there are tracks that stand out more than others. My personal favorites are... "Crooked" "Catnap" "I Love You" and "Cashflow".

So, check it out, whether you think you're gonna like it or not because chances are, if you exist, there's probably something for you on this album. Thanks to Corn Cat for his generosity.

As this semester gets underway, I've had a little less time than I anticipated to do RMSS, which is OK. I will slowly get back to updating everyday with as much as I can. Later today we will have some incredible new music from Corn Cat, whose work just continues to progress.

The Sleeping Sea - Sun Drips EP

AH! I played in a band called Diarrhea Planet last night, here in Nashville....it was quite a night.

What this is really about though, is The Sleeping Sea. Personally, I feel like these guys are doing something incredibly unique, in their live show and in their recordings. It would be like if you took.....don't crucify me......Vampire Weekend and made it really good. It'll make sense when you hear it.

Not to mention they're giving it to you for FREE here at RMSS!! Anyways, these guys deserve all of the attention that they're going to be getting in the coming months and the Sun Drips Ep is more than enough evidence of that.

Gorgeous harmonies combined with low key-jangly guitar playing, subtle-but-fitting drum parts, and various other instrumentation, this release and this group is sure to have you head nodding in a completely relaxed state. PERFECT music for end of summer going into fall.
For fans of Yo La Tengo/Vampire Weekend/The Radio Dept.

The Pinstripes! and other news!

In lieu of some super exciting things I'm working on for RMSS that will take a couple of days, I've asked my own band, The Pinstripes, if they would mind me posting an mp3 for free from our new split 10" EP with the Green Room Rockers. The record is out on Dashiki Clout (Dave from Mustard Plug's label) and is being sold all over the damn place. Personally, I'm very excited about this release because it's our first vinyl release as well as GRR's.
This release is also a part of a lot of upcoming shows that we will be selling the records at. You can check out all the details at our myspace link below, but some of the highlights are a weekend stint in September with Mustard Plug, Riot Fest in Chicago with The Aggrolites, Deal's Gone Bad, and a million others, as well as some hometown shows in Cincinnati.
The track I'm posting is called "Cool Whip/Hot Sauce" and it's from The Pinstripes side of the record. It will only be up here for about 10 days so get it while you can. WORD!

The Only Good Thing About The Forties

FUCK! That name is long, but this band is good. I guess that means long things are.....good? Whatever. Anyways, I've been following this band for the last year or so and they have made incredible strides in their songwriting as well as the arrangements of songs in their musicianship. Simply put, this shit is super catchy and really really well done. I talked to vocalist Stephen Stallings today about donating a track to RMSS for free download and he happily obliged. Black Van - Tape Player

Today we have our first contribution from Black Van called Tape Player. Not only is it our first download-able post, but it is also the first EP from this bedroom project from the mind of Wes Rossler.

Rossler has been doing homemade recordings for a while now but this is his first official release. It was self-released two weeks ago on Wes' SleepSleep Records. As far as I know there is no physical release yet available but I assume that if there is enough demand, one will be put together in the near future. Wes has kindly opted for us to make the EP available for free exclusively through RMSS, so I'd say this is an awesome way to kick things off.
